Harley-Davidson Sportster 883
There are three Harley Davidson Sportster models in the 883 line: The 883 Low (XL 883L), the 883 Custom (XL 883C) and the Iron 883 (XL 883 N).
In the entire Sportster line of Harley Davidson motorcycles there are currently 7 models offered. All of the Sportster models are powered by a 45 degree V-twin engine. Both of the connecting rods share a common crank pin in this engine. The Sportster transmissions are linked to the engine with a three-rowed chain primary drive and a cable operated clutch. The motor and transmission share the same casing. Rubber isolation mounts are used to limit engine movement which in turn, lessens vibrations.
The Sportsters that are designed for street use have the XL prefix. Motorcycles with the smaller engines are designated XL883 while the larger are designated XL1100.
The 883 Sportster Low has the lowest suspension of the three 883cc bikes and it features a low classic solo seat, a full rear finder and wide classic handlebars. It also sports a chrome, staggered ‘Shorty Exhaust’, a front fender and mid-mounted footpegs. The frame is narrow and nimble on the 883 Low.

The 883 Custom features a silver Powder-Coated engine with a chrome staggered ‘Shorty Exhaust’, a full rear fender, and a one piece two-up classic seat. It sports a chrome bullet headlight and forward mounted footpegs.
The Iron 883 model features more blacked-out components than any other Harley. The 883 has a chopped rear fender, a one piece solo seat, a satin trim ring with a black body headlamp and visor. It also comes with a chrome, staggered ‘Shorty Ehaust’ and has mid-mounted footpegs.
All three models share an exposed seat and have low seat heights. These models are easy to drive and are considered to be very nimble motorcycles that are easy to maneuver in traffic and parking lots.
